Welcome to the Wilson Family blog. Over the next two weeks we will recount and share with you our amazing experiences here in Iceland. We will be travelling all around the country and visiting many different areas.

The Drive

On Monday the 10th of July, we set off from Belgium to properly start our holidays. We drove for the whole day, approximately 13 hours including stops, to reach Hirsthals, Denmark where our ferry would depart the next morning. That night, we stayed in a motel called Nordsoen, which would translate from Danish into North Sea. We woke up very early the next morning to board the Norröna, which eventually took us to Iceland. To board the ferry, there were 7 different lanes. Lane 7 was the one to Iceland. However, lane 7 was already pretty full when we got there, so we were directed into a side lane.
Waiting for our boarding to start.
As it turned out, about an hour later, all of the 7 lanes were boarding the ferry to Iceland, however we were still in a side lane and had to squeeze into the gaps in lane 7. To make matters worse, it seemed that all of the other lanes were moving much quicker than lane 7, so we were sat waiting for around 2 hours. However, to make up for that, after the gates, we were one of the first to actually board the ferry.

Trying to see the ferry, which was arriving.

On the ferry

After we had found our rooms, one room with two bunk beds and the other with a double bed, we made our way to the top deck to wave goodbye to Hirsthals as we left, an hour later than planned. Next we started exploring all eight of the decks, including three restaurants, a cafe, a shopping area and a games room. We also booked a hot tub for the next day.

In the first couple of hours we could still see the coast of Norway from the deck, and we passed through the Shetland Islands very early in the morning, but only Daddy was up and took some pictures for us to see.

The next day we finally arrived in Iceland after almost a 3 day journey on the ferry. Needless to say we were all very glad to get back on dry land!
